Birthday on the Slopes

Matt turned the big 3-8 today and what better way to celebrate than a day of skiing in Big Bear. Snow Summit offers a free lift ticket on your birthday so we took full advantage, pulled the kids out of school (note Allison was getting the perfect attendance award today-whoops!), and headed up at 6:30 this morning. We were on the slopes by 9 and only spent an hour on the bunny hill. The girls skied so well and were anxious to advance to Summit Run. I'm worried that this may be the last year we will all ski together. Matt prefers the black diamond runs and the girls are advancing much quicker than me. They will soon be taking off with him while I am stuck in the lodge!

Allison kept the Edgy-Wedgys on her skis all day, but "pizza" and "french fry" ed her way down with little problem. Taylor took off far in front of all of us and didn't look back. We just met her back down at the chair lift. What a difference a year makes! We enjoyed the 50+ degree weather and had a birthday lunch at the Village Haus at the top of the mountain. Matt's knee and my legs turned to jello around 2:30, but the girls would have kept going. We made it home in time for a quick dinner at the Hot Dog Shoppe and ate cake/ice cream and opened presents. We spoiled Matt with a new ski jacket, a Maui fire dept. t-shirt, some crime books and his favorite Pepperidge Farm cookies. Happy Birthday to you! We love you and hope you had a wonderful day...
