Wine Tasting

Wendy and David drove in from AZ for the long weekend, splitting time between Jen and Carlos' house and ours.
Wendy celebrated a birthday last week and wanted to do a little wine tasting this weekend to keep the celebration going.  Jen and Carlos drove up from SD and all of the kids played at our house while we went out for the afternoon.  Matt was the designated driver, as we hit some of our favorite spots (not really for the wine, but for the atmosphere!).
We started at South Coast.  It was pretty crowded, but they seemed to like the wine.  David and Carlos went for more of the reds and ports and Wendy and Jen liked the whites.
Nest stop was Longshadow Ranch.  Matt and Carlos got attacked by a horse on the way in!
We loved the barn and David loved the port! Hard to believe Wendy and I have been friends for about 26 birthdays!

Then it was on to Peltzer where these 4 shared a bottle of chardonnay.  Matt and I tasted it, but could barely handle a sip...eck!  They loved it though.  I loved that they served Great Harvest Cinnaburst bread!

The last stop in the wineries was Ponte.  It was a packed house with wine tasting, a wedding ceremony and a reception in the barrel room.  So many more to tour, but will have to save those for next time. We made one last stop at Ballast Point for the guys to get a beer or two before heading back to the kiddos.
We picked up take out chinese and enjoyed dinner and some rounds of Tripoly before calling it a night.  Sounds like the kids had fun playing Wii, building a fort and playing Capture the Flag outside with the neighborhood kids.  Only wish we could do this more often, but grateful for our weekend together!!

SLI Graduation

For the past 8 months, Matt has been attending the SLI (Supervisory Leadership Institute) in San Diego.  He stays in a hotel Sun-Wed each time and has spent 192 hours in the classroom, read and analyzed 13 books, completed multiple projects and attended events at the Museum of Tolerance and NAS Miramar.
His class was made up of supervisors representing law enforcement agencies throughout California. Today was graduation day!
Receiving his diploma from the Chula Vista Chief of Police
Assistant Sheriff Mike Barnett came to support Matt as well.
There was a nice reception that followed and I was glad I could be there to support him. He works very hard and takes great pride in all he does!  Congrats!

SCARY NIGHT

Allison started the 2nd half in tonight's game against TV.  She got a few touches on the ball that were pretty routine.  Then with 14 minutes left in the half, she attempted to smother the ball that was kicked in from a corner kick.  Unfortunately the forward on the opposing team attempted to kick the ball as well.  She missed and kicked Allison square in the head.  I instantly knew she was hurt...assuming she had a broken nose or a handful of teeth.  She laid motionless on her belly and I could see her teammates waving over to the coaches.  Then the coaches waving to the trainers and a sense of serious concern through the crowd of parents and spectators.
I ran down from the bleachers and hesitantly onto the field.  Allison was groaning a little, but moving her fingers and toes and answering all of the questions asked of her.  Everyone was on the same page...DON'T MOVE HER!
911 was called since she was complaining of neck and back pain.  We kept her calm and still and waited for the fire truck and then the ambulance to arrive.  I called Matt and Taylor and told them both to meet me at the hospital.
The paramedics secured her with a C collar and loaded her into the ambulance.  I met them at the hospital and anxiously awaited CT scans.  Leslie and Stacy followed me there and Coach B arrived soon after.
We received wonderful care and within an hour or 2 got the good news that all CT scans of the head, neck and back were clear!  C collar off and discharge papers!  Whiplash-like symptoms for several days, but nothing this tough girl couldn't handle!
So grateful for our wonderful community!  I was receiving texts and phone calls immediately, multiple people offered to drive me to the hospital, the school's athletic director reached out and a friend who works in the radiology department called the hospital ahead of our arrival to make sure we were well taken care of!
Such a scary event and one I hope to never relive, but so thankful for the outcome.  Why couldn't she just join the chess team?!
(On a side note, we just received the bill for this little adventure...over $16,000!!!  Blessed with great insurance, but that is ridiculous!)
