State Cup...Weekend #2

By advancing to this weekend and the Round of 32, this team had already achieved our goal and anything more would just be icing on the cake. I think this attitude going into Saturday's game helped them play loose and just enjoy the experience.
Our Saturday matchup was against San Luis Obispo and we were lucky to only have to drive 30 minutes to the field in San Marcos, unlike their 4 hour ride. Although it was a battle until the end, we advanced to the Round of 16 with a 3-1 win!

With each victory, the excitement grew and Sunday was no exception. We were back on the field for an 8:30am game against Rancho Cucamonga. I loved how all the girls would ask, "Is this team good?" and I would always respond the same, "At this level, they are all good!"
I think Taylor had one of the best games to date this morning...winning nearly every ball that came her way and scoring two beautiful goals from way beyond the 18 yard box. Her tough play, along with the strong team effort, led us to another victory and a spot in the Round of 8!!

By this point, we all felt like we were living a dream!
Before our 12:30 game, we set up camp for lunch and some team bonding and down time. Taylor mostly bonded with Joey.
Allison and Lindsay had fun making trips to the snack shack, playing at the park and doing some coloring.
Taylor's strong play this morning earned her one of the two Captain's bands for our afternoon game against La Mirada. Our sideline cheering section grew as word of our accomplishment spread. We had a few fellow Hawks families make the drive to support us in our battle for the Final Four.
Bella "rocked the net" this game, blocking a gorgeous PK and a few other nice shots by the opposition and Ashley and Maylie were able to put in two beautiful goals to help us finish with a 2-1 victory!
Are you kidding me? A spot in the Final Four? One of the 4 best teams in Southern California? It just keeps getting better and we will battle hard next weekend in the Semifinal game against Carlsbad Wave up in Pomona. A victory there will put us in Sunday's championship game, but win or lose, this team is remarkable! They are playing fabulous soccer, staying loose and enjoying the ride. I'm just not sure they understand how big this is...which is probably better :)
