We woke up to some morning clouds and rain and decided it would be a good day for some hiking and exploring. Matt and I have found some pretty amazing hidden spots that are no longer so hidden thanks to the Maui Revealed book. 
Our first stop was Slaughterhouse Beach. Parking is roadside and then we made our way down this cool staircase to the water.

This is a great hidden beach just North of Kapalua 
Then it was back in the car and North a mile or two for a hike to Honolua Bay. The hike is through a gorgeous little rainforest, a walk across a small stream and into a rock covered beach that used to be a boat ramp. A family of locals have been in court battles to claim the land as theirs and have created quite a mess along the water. There are makeshift homes, pop-up tents and lots of trash. They try to make visitors pay to enter, but we have been there enough to know the story and walk right past. 
The snorkeling and views are worth it all. The weather wasn't good enough today to get in, but we would return. 
We continued our journey and made our way to the Nakalele Blowhole. It is a tough hike through lots of rock and steep terrain, but was really fun. 
The blowhole spouts every minute or so as the waves crash up. 
Next to the blowhole is this really cool heart cut out in the rock. 
Matt and I had never gone past the blowhole on our drives through West Maui, but Leslie suggested going a little further to the Olivine Pools. I'm so glad she did! We followed the road up a few miles, looked for the dip in the road and the big boulder on the right side to spot a small parking area for the hike down. 
It was another rocky, steep hike, but worth it!

Hank and Reanna were brave enough to put on their suits and jump in, just as the weather dramatically changed. 
Moments after these pictures, the rain came down harder than we have ever experienced and we were soaked in seconds. Lauren, Allison and I raced up the hill and to the car. Taylor tried to catch up with us, but lost sight and was in a panic when Matt came across her minutes later. Leslie and Reanna got stuck waiting for Hank to change clothes and were last to arrive back at the cars. Although cold,wet and muddy, we all had a great laugh at it all and loved the experience. We ate lunch at Honolua General Store, eating outside on the patio as the rain fell over Kapalua. We went back to Kahana to play at the beach for awhile and then ordered Maui Tacos to eat at the Lebitski's. We had one of our many Bananagrams battles and enjoyed a quiet night.
