Parent's Day

Rather than do a separate celebration for Mother's Day and Father's Day, 1st grade decided to wrap it all in to one Parent's Day. Allison greeted us at the door, escorted us to our seats and shared the many projects she has been working on recently. She asked if she could get us anything to drink (so polite), so I asked what our choices were. She said "water". So water it is! We snacked on some popcorn as she presented us with our gifts.

I was given a silk flower pen and some homemade stationery. She even stamped the envelopes! Matt loved his black and white photo frame of Allison in a men's shirt and tie. He wants to take it to work with him, but I'm hoping to put it up at home.

Then the kids formed a circle around the room and sang L-O-V-E, Down by the Sea and Tony Chestnut to us. This was a song I hadn't heard before and although I paid close attention to the hand movements, we weren't prepared to perform it in front of everyone. However, the kids got quite a kick out of watching their parents give it a try. We looked pretty silly!

Mrs. Skinner read one of my favorite books Oh my Baby Little One before we headed outside for a few games of Pictureka.

Allison wrote a cute paragraph about why she loves her Mom and Dad. Here it is:
My parents are the coolest in town! My dad is the best because he is a policeman and he protects my family. When my dad comes home from work he helps me do my homework. My mom helps in my class every Monday. My mom and dad went to the Padres game and got tickets to sit behind home plate. Thats all about my mom and dad. Did you like learning about my parents?
I love reading her stories. Her writing has improved so much over this year, but the thoughts are often so random! We will have lots of laughs and many fond memories reading over this year's Memory Book.
