Hawaii Day #6

We drove to Hilo early this morning to drop Matt off at Hilo Airport for his helicopter ride over the volcano. He said it was really cool and I hope to post pictures once he uploads them off of the big camera.
The girls and I explored a little around Hilo while waiting for him.  We got scones, donuts and banana bread at Hilo Bake Company...all really good!
Then it was a day of waterfalls.  The first one was Rainbow Falls.

It was right next to the parking lot and a quick stop.  We did take the steps to the top for a cool view looking down.

Back in the car and up the road a mile or 2 to Boiling Pots and Pe'eep'e Falls.

The last stop was Waiale Falls.  We attempted to park and hike to the falls, but it was super muddy and we were in flip flops.  We laughed at Jenna's expense when her flip flop got stuck in the mud and her foot got covered in it!
We had a enough time to stop at the Liliuokalani Gardens before picking Matt up at the airport.
We had a really good lunch at Pineapple's in Hilo.
We tried Furikake for the first time...it is a seaweed seasoning and we tried it on Jumbo Shrimp.  Really good!
Then we drove up the northern coastline to Akaka Falls.  This was the most beautiful area yet!
Lush greenery all along the half-mile path to the falls.

 1400 foot waterfall!
The last stop was to Kolekole Beach Park which is where the Akaka Falls run off meets the ocean.
Swimmers often enter here and can rope swing in the water, but the current was too big today.  It was still a beautiful look out!
