Kauai Day #1

We were up most mornings for the beautiful sunrise from our balcony.
The ocean front bike path was the perfect spot for morning walks, before it got too hot.
We started most days off with a walk and a macadamia nut latte/muffin from Java Kai…an eclectic coffee shop in town.
After breakfast, we loaded up the car for a day on the North Shore. Our first stop was the beautiful Kilauea Lighthouse.  It was closed on Sundays, but the views from the fence were gorgeous.
A big thank you to my parents for buying us a GoPro to take on the trip.  We captured some wonderful videos and underwater pics, along with a few fun selfies along the way :)
The next lookout spot was the Hanalei Lookout overlooking the taro fields and Hanalei River.
This island is so much greener than Maui and we loved the lushness of it all.

We drove across many unique one lane bridges, passed Hanalei Bay and parked at Haena Beach Park for an afternoon of swimming and snorkeling.  The water was so unbelievably warm and clear here all week.
I loved the contrast of the turquoise blue water and then the back drop of lush green peaks behind us.
We also loved that we had most of the beaches to ourselves!
On our way back to Kapaa, I followed the map in our Kauai Revealed book to a special spot called Secret Beach.  You can tell this place is a secret…I think we only saw about 6 other people the whole time we were here!
It was a steep hike down and back up, but was well worth it.
Once at the bottom, we plopped our chairs under a tree for a nap
and then a short walk across the Secret Lava Pools.
