Although I wish it was under different circumstances, I flew in to KC on Thursday. I hadn't seen Taylor in 8 weeks and it was so good to hug her!! We had a nice dinner with Andrew and I had a chance to meet her roommates before we headed out for our drive to Iowa on Friday.
We were up early Friday for our 400 mile drive and stopped at one of the Bridges of Madison County along the way. I wish we had more time to see others!
We were greeted at the hotel by some family in the lobby and Merritt, Keri and Lucas swimming at the pool.
Friday night was the visitation at Schultz Funeral Home. There was a beautiful slideshow, photo books and a display of some of the blankets Grandma knitted for family over the years.
So many people came to say goodbye to Grandma and so much of the Barnes family was there as well. We had a chance to meet Brooks (Taylor is the oldest great-grandchild and Brooks is the youngest of 19).
Here are just some of the special blankets Grandma made for all of the kids. Such a wonderful way to remember her!
Back at the hotel, Sean shared a McFlurry with Taylor while the other kids swam. It was our first time meeting him too.
Saturday morning, we attended the funeral mass at St. Joe's. All of the grandsons were pall bearers and Melissa and I did readings during mass.
It was a rainy morning at the cemetery, but a peaceful final resting spot for Grandma.
Sweet Mya with one of the roses from the funeral arrangement. Each family took one as a keepsake to cherish from the day.
Grandma was sure loved! From family, to friends, hospital staff and grocery store employees...we heard so many wonderful stories about her.
We had a nice luncheon back at the church
and an afternoon swim for the kiddos, before heading to Greg and Sheri's for one last family get together.

It was a great night to share stories and spend time with our Iowa family. I was sad Matt and Allison couldn't join, but loved the time with Taylor. We know Grandma was smiling down on all of the love being shared tonight!
Although not Barnes Foodland anymore, we finished our trip with donuts from the store before driving back to KC.
