We left Charleston this morning to make our way to Hilton Head Island, but took a quick detour for a few hours at Hunting Island State Park. This area took a big hit during Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 and just recently reopened to the public.
This iconic lighthouse is front and center along the water
and the beaches were all lined with debris from fallen trees. It was so unique to anything we had seen before
and the water was so warm!
It was hotter than heck, but Matt, Allison and I walked this gorgeous stairway to the top of the lighthouse
for a 360 degree view of the island.
This damage still remains from the hurricane at the Nature Center.
Inside we looked at turtles, alligators and lizards and had a very interactive encounter with this snake!
Back on the road for po' boy and hot dog lunches at The Dog House and then finally arriving in Hilton Head.
A huge thank you to Gigi for renting us a beautiful beach house in Shipyard Plantation for the week!
It was a picture perfect community with a golf course, bike paths, alligator sightings and close proximity to the beach.
We had this cute corner unit with lots a space to get comfortable for the week.
Gigi met us at the house for a quick walk to the beach
and a walk of the grounds at the Sonesta Hotel.
We drove to One Hot Mama's for a yummy BBQ dinner and
you know I researched all of the ice cream shops, so we started with Hilton Head Ice Cream Company...so good!
