In 2008, the four of us went on a guided kayak/snorkel trip off of the Olawalu coast of Maui. It was one of our favorite memories and we were excited to try it again this trip. Maui Ecotours suggested we take off from Makena Landing this time due to better weather conditions on the south side of the island which sounded great to all 9 of us.

We met at Makena Landing at 8:00 to meet our guide Peter, get fitted for lifevests and paddles and to get some instruction.

The cliffside homes and views were spectacular and the weather was perfect!

We kayaked out several hundred feet from the coast, hoping to spot or hear a whale. They have begun their migration back to Alaska, but we did spot several throughout the week so we were hopeful. Unfortunately, no luck but the paddle out was gorgeous anyway. Poor Lauren started to get a little seasick in the kayak so she and Leslie had to head to shore before we stopped at our snorkel spot. Luckily, we did spot a turtle or two swimming along side us before they left!

Once anchored, we all jumped in (except for Poppy) to swim with the turtles. I think we saw 4 different females that calmly swam around the reef. It was so peaceful!

Matt and Taylor loved diving down for a better look.

The girls took a few breaks for juice and granola bars, but perfected getting in and out of the kayak.
