Poetry Night

Mrs. Han put together our school's 1st Poetry Night and encouraged the different grade levels to participate. It was a very nice blend of different types of poems read by teachers, staff, parents and students from our school. There were also several types displayed around the multi-purpose room. Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Williams read a poem about Honey Bees.

Maddyn and Zoe wrote a poem about Color Poems.

Taylor and Cassidy read the poem they wrote in class titled Because:

You might not believe it, but her's how it happened.

One school morning at Tony Tobin, we got an idea that

Mrs. Atkinson could be a 5th grade teacher.

Because we got that idea we told Mr. McTasney.

Because we told Mr. McTasney we had to tell Mrs. Atkinson.

Because we told Mrs. Atkinson she flipped out.

Because she flipped out we thought it would never happen.

Because we thought it would never happen we were so gloomy.

Because we were so gloomy we begged and begged and begged.

Because we begged she fell for it.

Because she fell for it we were ecstatic.

Because we were so ecstatic Mrs. Atkinson got this genius idea that

she could teach a 4/5 combo.

Because she got that genius idea she told us.

And that's how it happened,

Believe me it's true,

Because of an idea that finally came true.

The final performance was Mr. McTasney and Rachel Skinner singing "I'm still in the bathtub" to the tune of "Take me out to the ballgame". It was very cute and he really showed his school spirit. There was so much creativity displayed tonight and I hope it becomes an annual tradition.

Fun Weekend with the Houston's

Scott and Elizabeth have been so good about coming down to visit over the years and this year is no exception. They flew in late Friday night, but we were able to spend a few hours catching up before calling it a night. It was an early morning as we made our way to the soccer field in the 100 degree heat. So much for the first weekend of fall! Scott and Elizabeth must have been good luck charms as they cheered Taylor's team to a 7-2 victory and then we rushed over to Allison's game to watch her team win as well.

Then it was off to Lisa and Daniel's for a nice lunch and chance to visit. Sweet Olivia slept the whole time, but it was nice to chat for a while. We returned home to cool off in the pool and relax before they treated us to a very delicious birthday dinner at Lucille's BBQ. It was delicious! Thank you!

The Houston's seem to spoil us everytime they come down. This time the girls were showered with gifts including American Girl books, bookmarks and some fun cooking/science kits. Taylor spent this morning baking us some delicious banana chocolate chip muffins and they both had fun making some disgusting drink concoctions with Elizabeth using her Tasty Science kit. It was a nice relaxing day watching football and making homemade pizzas for lunch. Scott and the girls got a quick swim in before they packed up and headed to the airport. It is always a great visit and we only wish we could see them more often.

Tooth Fairy Strikes Again

After Allison's soccer game, she bit into her granola bar and the "snaggle tooth" that has been dangling all week started to bleed. She wouldn't let Matt pull it, but whined every second about how much it hurt. When we got to Auntie Lisa's for lunch and she cried about biting into her sandwich, Matt said "enough is enough". He calmly escorted Allison to the backyard and according to her "Yanked it right out of the gum!" But look at the smile that followed. She ate her lunch and went on her way.

She came down stairs this morning with $3 and tooth in hand. She had me write a letter to the tooth fairy asking if she could keep it too. The double gap is adorable and she got them both out just in time for school pictures on Thursday!

Baby Boy Bramsway

Baby boy Bramsway is due to arrive on November 3rd and tonight was Teri's night to be showered with friends, yummy food and some gifts for baby. Her sister Cheryl opened her home to host the evening and Wendy and Chessa did a great job with all of the beautiful decorations.

Snips and snails and puppy dog tails

Several of us brought appetizers and desserts to enjoy while we chatted, played a few games and watched Teri open her gifts. Wendy put together a very challenging baby Word Scramble and it was a little scary seeing how few Teri was able to figure out!

Brooke made this beautfiul cupcake tower and cake display and a few extra desserts were added as well.

Wendy and I went with Teri to Babies R Us a few weeks ago to help her register. We picked a very cute brown and green Monkey theme for the nursery and it seemed to be the theme of the night. I think this baby may actually be nicknamed "Monkey" after seeing all of the cute clothes he will be wearing and cute blankets he will be wrapped in. We can't wait to meet him!!

Aztec game and KGB Skyshow

After soccer we rushed home for quick showers, a snack and a few minutes to pack up the car for our day at Qualcomm. Matt was called out to work for the day, but we hoped he would meet us at the game. No luck! We tailgated with the VanShaiks and the Maguire families. This was a first for our girls and they loved it. They played 4 square and football in the parking lot, ate lots of junk food and just enjoyed being together. At 5:30, we headed inside for the Southern Utah vs. SDSU game. Our seats were at the top of the stadium so we could have the best seats for the Skyshow that would follow the game.

Unfortunately the seats were a little too high for Laura and Korynn. They braved it out for the first 10 minutes or so, but that was that. After much teasing, the two of them traded in their tickets and headed for safer ground!

The Aztecs pulled out a 35-19 victory over the Thunderbirds and then the girls were ready for the 34th annual KGB Skyshow.

It was plenty loud as the fireworks, light displays and other pyrotechnics were synchronized to KGB music. The girls loved it and so did all of the adults. It was definitely the best fireworks display any of us had seen and we hope to make it an annual tradition. Laura better hurry up and get over her fear of heights!

Lightning Horses

The Lightning Horses played their 1st game this morning and Allison looked more alive than ever! She had confidence, great footwork and was a good leader. Gone are the days of asking Matt to "feel how sweaty my armpits are" in the middle of the game or asking "When do we get snack?" She was there to play and even scored the 1st goal in the team's 3-2 victory (although we don't keep score!).

Keeping the Tooth Fairy Busy

Last weekend, Taylor came home from a sleepover with her 1st missing molar (Tooth #9). She didn't even know it was loose, but when chewing on a starburst, the tooth stuck to the candy and came right out. No blood! Although Taylor is in on the "little secret", she was still able to earn a few bucks by playing along for Allison's sake. I guess it was a win-win.

Then tonight, Allison lost Tooth #4. It has been dangling down from her upper gum for the last few days and I couldn't handle looking at it anymore. Taylor and I covered our ears and hid in the laundry room while Matt pulled it out. A few swishes of water and her left over Golden Spoon made her very happy. She has quite the smile now and two more really loose teeth. She will have a very memorable school picture this year I think!

Not Ready to Say Goodbye

I realize that Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer, but I'm not ready to let it go. I know it has been over 100 degrees for the past 2 weeks and it is nearly impossible to cool down, but I am struggling with seeing Christmas decorations already lining the aisles at Costco and the kids talking about their Halloween costumes. I dread this time of year because we aren't ready to say goodbye to summer. So what better way to keep summer alive? Head to Moonlight Beach, of course....

That is just what we did yesterday and it was perfect. Summer doesn't officially end for a few weeks and we plan on many more beach days!!!
