Off to Mammoth...

Matt had a specific destination in mind when we discussed his 40th birthday trip...MAMMOTH! He did all of the research for the best place to stay and had been checking the snow levels and weather for what seemed like months on his ITouch. On Sunday morning, we packed up the car and made our way up 395 for our first trip to this ski area. So many of our friends have been before and couldn't say enough great things about it. Recent weather reports showed 34'' of new snow in the previous few days and a snow base of over 20 feet! The drive from Bishop to Mammoth was absolutely breathtaking! Matt couldn't have picked a better place to stay. He chose the Village Lodge and this was the view from our balcony. The village is full of wonderful shops...Starbucks, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Ben & Jerry's, Quicksilver and several delicious restaurants along with 4 stories of lodging up above.
The clock tower and Starbuck's from our balcony.
The first two days there were clear and sunny, but snow was everywhere. This is the view from the hot tub.
Several cute chairlift benches lined the village walkways.
At night, the temperature dipped quite a bit and we enjoyed warming up at this firepit after dinner.
We stayed in a one bedroom lodge with kitchen and fireplace. It had a great mountain feel and was the perfect home away from home.

Happy 40th Birthday Matthew!

Happy 4oth Birthday to my wonderful husband! You are hilarious, successful, sensitive, smart, competitive, hard-working and caring. I am so thankful to have you as my partner in life and love the father you are to our children. You are the bread winner, the handyman, the soccer coach, the cabana boy, the gardener, the math whiz, the teacher and the funny guy.
You are the king of the remote control, the dog walker, the class project maker and the most handsome guy. For all of these things and more, I love you and wish you the best birthday yet.
Happy 40th, my love!!
Off to Mammoth we go....

Surprise, Surprise!!

Well, we pulled off the surprise! Matt thought we were meeting Hank and Leslie for a birthday dinner (thanks for the help guys!), but when we arrived, there was a table for 20 set up with some of our closest friends. Balloons, cheers and hugs greeted Matt as he walked in and we had a great night celebrating.

Katy and Dan
Charlie and Mary
Stacey and Tim
Todd and Linda
Paul and Laura
Lisa and Michael

We had lots of delicious appetizers and more shots than Matt would have liked (on the house, thanks to a management mix-up...ugh!). Dinner was delicious and it was great catching up with everybody.

The staff came out clapping and singing Happy Birthday to the Old Guy and the red velvet cake was delicious!

Matt opened some hilarious gifts...gift card to Sports Authority to buy Shape-Ups, a Joann's gift card to buy hair bow accessories and some "adult" gifts from Spencers. I especially loved the blow up headband that he so proudly wore!
Then it was on to Killarney's for more drinks, great music and tons of laughs. Thanks Tim and Jane for the first drink, a Blue Condom. Not sure what was in it, but it sure made Matt cringe!
Leslie recommended this yummy drink for all of the ladies... a French Kiss. Pretty yummy!
I learned so many drink names tonight, some worth having again and others I would like to forget.
Matt was a good sport and handled the abuse well. Luckily he was able to drink quite a bit of water and make a few "special" trips to the bathroom. We had so much fun singing and dancing to the 80's band and the people watching was fantastic! Thank you to all of our friends who joined us to make this one memorable night for the birthday boy!
Happy 40th to you!!

"THAT WAS IT?"

The school district now requires all incoming 7th graders to have a TDap booster shot before the school year. Taylor was also due for the Meningitis vaccine so I scheduled both for today and she has been FREAKING OUT ever since I made the appointment. She hasn't had shots since 2004 and the fear of the unknown was almost more than she could handle. She kept asking me to pinch just the way it would feel, but I kept reassuring her she would be just fine. Allison thought the whole thing was hysterical since she has endured multiple shots, IVs and 2 surgeries in the last few years!
She was pretty quiet sitting in the waiting room, but once inside the nurse was so sweet and asked her lots of soccer questions to take her mind off of it. Within seconds the nurse was putting the first bandaid on and the look on Taylor's face was priceless..."That was it? I didn't even feel it!" See all that worry for nothing. She did great with the 2nd as well and other than a little tenderness in her shoulders tonight, she is doing just fine!

"EPIC" Day of Skiing

Matt and I always said we would never ski on a weekend or holiday...traffic is a nightmare and it is just too crowded. But with snow conditions like this, great weather, a day off of school and free tickets, we couldn't pass up another day on the slopes. We got up early and caravaned with the Lebitski's up to Snow Valley. The girls have been dying to ski together all season and I think this may have been the only chance to do it. They have all become such strong skiers and love the time they spend together. This was the best snow I have ever skiied in, but have been told this is nothing compared to what we will see in Mammoth next week!Allison, my little snow bunny!Slide Peak opened for the first time this season. The powdery conditions were amazing at the peak of the mountain, but we weren't that impressed with the runs. However, we couldn't get enough of this gorgeous view.
I think this was the most snow either of our girls have ever seen. Reports show Snow Valley has a 3-4 foot base. Next week, Mammoth is set to have over 20 feet!!
Taylor sure wishes she could convince Lauren to miss school next week so they can join us on our next ski adventure, but was glad they at least had today!

I Heart You

We had lots of ways of showing our love for each other on this Valentine's Day. Taylor gave these cute cookies and hair clips to her friends at school. Allison did the same for Mrs. Siptroth and passed out Valentine tattoos to the kids in her class.
Both girls had cards and candy on their nightstand when they woke up and were served yummy heart pancakes with...

pink milk.
They also got heart-shaped sandwiches along with heart-shaped cookies and all things red in their lunches.
They got all dressed up in their cutest Valentine's outfits and hair clips and headed out for the day. Matt gave me beautiful star-gazer lillies and some of my favorite candy bars and I gave him a new baseball hat and heart-shaped cookies. We had a nice lunch date in San Diego since I will be spending a very romantic evening at Hawks tryouts. I guess you do the best you can with what time you've got!
Happy Valentine's Day to the loves of my life...
I HEART YOU!!

Goodbye at SkyHigh

Well, tonight we said our final goodbyes to Hawks GU11 White. It has been a season that exceeded all expectations and I love these girls dearly. We celebrated with a fun night at SkyHigh Party Zone.
The girls and parents had fun going down the slides...
racing through the obstacle course...
playing air hockey and ping pong...
and singing and dancing on the stage. We also watched a fantastic DVD that Mary put together from the entire season. It was amazing as always!
Then it was on to the dining room for pizza, drinks and cake.
Hawks...League Champs! Charlie and I presented each of the girls with a Presidio Champions trophy, a mini replica of our game ball and a copy of the DVD.
Charlie told Taylor she was a great playmaker and cheerleader. She could often be heard during games, pumping up the team with "Let's go Hawks!"
Charlie thanked Mary for all of her help behind the scenes.
The parents and girls presented each of us with wonderful gifts and shared many kind words.
Thanks for everything Hawks!!
Our family feels blessed to have been part of it!
